It happened! I am one of 50 Minnesotans who have been recognized by AARP and Pollen Midwest for making substantive contributions in one of 5 categories: being creative disruptors, contributing to the arts, to non- profits, to the community and to business.
Mary's Tunic
Cheetah Print Mary's Tunic
Judy's friend, the artist, Mary Casati, is the inspiration for the way I am. Hence my name, Mary's Tunic. I am light weight and my fabulous draping fits every body type.
Although I come in many colors and fabrics, one thing remains true. I. Am. Gorgeous. When I'm all shiny and glittery I really sparkle for special occasions. In a casual fabric I would be great for a lake walk or coffee with the girls.
My "V" neck line is quite a statement. Layering is not really my style, but I did see my sister over a black camisole, and I must admit she looked amazing!
Marge B. is all smiles! She's ready for the Holidays!

Armour Coat
Green Denim Armour Coat
Ok girls, if you're looking for fashion, pick me! Judy has named me the Armour Coat!
You say back pleats? Well, just take a look at my beautiful lines.
What are my benefits, you ask?
First and foremost, I am perfectly balanced. I may be shorter, (much shorter) than my fellow Checkov Coat, but I make up for it with my fabulous sleeve extensions and fierce collar. My friends also tell me I look good on anyone! You be the judge...

Swing Coat
Red Swing Coat with Rose Buttons
Hey! Look at me! I'm the Swing Coat. All of these other lady coats are talking about their gorgeous pleats and back detail. I've been listening to this stuff for months now!
Well, I have a back pleat too but its whole purpose is to make me flowy and comfortable. People refer to me as the "warm and fuzzy". I wrap myself around your shoulders and the rest of me flows to create a very flattering look on every body type!
Even though I'm simple, do not mistake that. My twin sister was featured on Judy Hornbacher Designs' business card. How do you like them apples?
Here I am with my twin:
THIS JUST IN!
I have been modified. Now, my pockets are more subtle and that collar!
Just look at me now.
Another great benefit? This style is so effortless, try embellishing with a fun pattern or bright color to make it pop!

Bomber Jacket
Brown Bomber Jacket with Fur Accents
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition, I am " a short jacket that is made of leather and fits closely around the waist"...
Hate to break it to you, but I am not ALWAYS made of leather. Some people just find that to be a little heavy at times. I am the new and improved Bomber Jacket. I am the most customizable of all of my other style friends.
It is true, I do have a short waist. My mother always said that is what makes me special.
Want to know something else? Come closer and I'll tell you... I just got pockets! I am so excited! Now the ladies can warm their hands and look fabulous in these Winter months.
Here are some photos of alternative styling:

Checkov Coat
Black Rip Torn Checkov Coat - One of a Kind
Look at me. I'm gorgeous. My fur cuffs and collar hug anyone who tries me on.
I'm a tall gal. I like to make a statement. When I'm walking around town, people notice me. Oh, it also helps that I am lined and love the outdoors or draw attention while shopping, attending art events, business meetings or the theatre! Although I like to make quite an appearance, my sisters are a little different. We all have our own style. Our similarities include:
- Lengthy girls
- Lined
- Gorgeous back pleats
- Front button closure

Some Benefits of Unique Fashion Design
Playing dress up begins at age five and never truly ends. - Kate Spade
One thing I enjoy creating are coat and jacket designs that look great on women of differing heights, sizes and shapes. I also love seeing women of all ages give each fabric and fashion their own flare, transforming my coats and jackets into individual works of art.
Here are two beauties showing off the Armor Coat with unique style.
And the Winner is...
I am pleased to announce the winners of the
"Make a Friend/Bring a Friend Capelet Contest":
Friends Catherine Wengler and Clare Ritter
Clare has gifted her Capelet to Ellen Purcell, a lovely young woman who looks absolutely ravishing in the Capelet!
Here are Judy, Catherine, Clare, Ellen and her mom, Carol.
All making sure that it fits just right!

Bottoms Up!
Many of us have been here before... Many of us wish we could get there.
Let's face it! We come in all different shapes and sizes and seldom find clothes that can fit our individual needs - we are not all "perfect" as portrayed in the media.
Don't even get me started on being able to find pants that fit. If only all pants could conform to your body in the way that "leggings" do...
Wait! What if we could customize pants to fit our individual bodies? YOU CAN!
Edith Gazzuolo from Clodata, uses present day technology and her sewing expertise to CUSTOMIZE pants patterns to FIT YOUR body!
Don't be like this ever again! The best part? You could WIN a FREE Pattern by Edith!
Here's How:

Creative Enterprise Zone Day of Events!
Looking for something fun to do this weekend?
"Once a year only, the private doors of the Dow Building Artist Studios open again for DO the DOW on November 13-14, 2015.
Despite the fact that artist's work might be seen by hundreds, thousands, and even millions of people, most artists are rather private people. To see an artist in her/his environment is a rare treat that has the power to transmit, perhaps, some of the essence and the mystery of creativity.
The Dow Building is one of the oldest in the Twin Cities. Built in 1923 and converted to artist studios in 1987, it hosts over 50 artists.
“Creativity meets Passion” is the theme of DO the DOW, 2015. Twenty eight artists will open their studios to share their passion for creativity." - DO the DOW Press Release
"Judy Hornbacher designs beautiful coats, jackets and tops for Evolved Women at her shared textile space, Collective Spaces, at 2500 University Ave W, Suite C-2, in the Creative Enterprise Zone.
With numerous designs to choose from and samples of all of them to try on, this pre-holiday event on November 13 is a fun way to update your wardrobe in a relaxed, enjoyable environment.
Come learn the various ways fabrics can be mixed and matched to create your own unique version of any given garment. Stop by to enjoy a beverage and small bites, chat and play dress up!"

The Love of Beautiful Garments
During my recent NYC fabric shopping trip, I made sure to visit a few of my favorite museums for design and fabric inspiration.
At the Metropolitan Museum of Art, I was completely drawn into the world of John Singer Sargent’s Portraits, many of artists and friends dressed in gorgeous attire.
Two Amazing Women Team Up to Customize for YOU the PERFECT OUTFIT!
I expect that every woman who reads this will know from personal experience how nearly hopeless it is to consistently find pants that actually FIT YOU! You can spend decades in departments stores trying on horrid looking things in which you look and feel uncomfortable.
